Description
What if you lost all your memories? As Long As You're Here is an emotional family drama seen through the eyes of a woman with Alzheimer's disease.
When Annie is forced to move from her long-time home, her children try to cope with reversed caretaking roles. As they clash over how to care for her, Annie's life slowly unravels, and memories of her long-dead brother start bleeding into the present.
Inspired by real, personal stories and made with care by a small team of developers, As Long As You're Here is a subtle reflection on what life with dementia might look like, and the toll it takes on a family. The aim is to create a short, mature, and nuanced experience that shows the difficult repercussions of losing not only your memory, but also your agency and sense of time and place.
What disappears when we forget?
... and what resurfaces?
History
As Long As You’re Here comes from a very personal space. After losing her grandmother to Alzheimer’s Disease, Marlène pitched the idea for a game that would try to put players in the shoes of someone with dementia. It became a way of processing the grief and trying to understand her grandmother’s perspective in her final years.
The game started as an 8-week student project originally titled Forgotten at the IT-University in Copenhagen in 2018 and was uploaded to itch.io. No one expected it to reach very far beyond the university crowd. This prototype garnered over 13.5k downloads on itch.io, and over 7 million views on YouTube from Let’sPlays. It was nominated for Best Student Game at the 2020 Independent Games Festival, and the amount of people that it impacted was overwhelming.
The public response made it clear that the game speaks to an all-too-common sense of grief, with hundreds of players sharing how the experience resonated with their own family tragedies. It was clear that it had to be finished and made into a full release, first as a hobby project and now as a full-time production.
As Long As You’re Here is finally set to release on October 28th 2025.

About Autoscopia Interactive
Autoscopia Interactive is a small and diverse game studio based in Copenhagen, Denmark, with developers from Denmark, The Netherlands, and the U.S.
Our studio name comes from the word "autoscopy" — an experience of "watching yourself" from a distant point of view. We make introspective games that put players in underrepresented roles, and hope to give you a glimpse of yourself from another perspective.
